How to take care of your face?

How to take care of your face?

To take care of your face, there are three essential steps: cleansing, moisturizing, and exfoliating. These beauty rituals must be supplemented by a good diet and a healthy lifestyle. A few easy tips and habits can help keep your skin looking beautiful and your face radiant.

What you need to know about skin

Skin consists of three layers: the epidermis, the dermis, and the hypodermis.

The epidermis is a very thin layer, less than a millimeter thick. It's the one that "produces" dead skin cells. It's waterproof and gradually peels every day. It renews itself in 28 days.

The second layer is the dermis. This is the flesh that houses all the tiny blood vessels, hair roots, glands that produce sebum, etc.

The third and final layer, the deepest, is the hypodermis. It is mainly composed of fat that protects deeper organs.

What is the purpose of facial skin?

Facial skin (like the rest of the body) is waterproof. It helps retain the water contained in the body.

It is also an organ of touch. Even on the face, the skin contains nerve endings that allow us to feel by touch.

The dermis contains glands that produce sebum and sweat. These secretions serve to protect the skin from external aggressions. They also help eliminate unnecessary products and defend against germs, bacteria, and microbes.

A healthy diet

To take care of your face, it is essential to start with a healthy diet and good hydration.

Radiant skin necessarily comes from hydration. We know that you should drink at least 1.5 liters of water per day. This helps, among other things, to eliminate toxins.

To take care of your face, avoid foods rich in fatty acids like pastries, cold cuts... These foods tend to disrupt the regulation of sebaceous glands and make the skin oilier.

Eat plenty of vegetables, especially if they are raw or steamed, which allows you to benefit from all the trace elements and vitamins.

Limit fast sugars like candies or cakes that stimulate sebum production and promote the appearance of pimples.

Reduce or eliminate alcohol and tobacco consumption, which dehydrate the skin, dull the complexion, and accelerate skin aging.

Prioritize foods with antioxidant properties such as hazelnuts, almonds, vegetable oils... And consume green tea, avocados, fatty fish, eggs, and foods rich in zinc as often as possible. They give a healthy glow, facilitate the elimination of toxins, give the skin suppleness, purify it, and regulate sebum secretion.

A healthy lifestyle

Taking care of your face involves hydration, a healthy diet, and also a good lifestyle. Stress, pollution, hormonal cycles, and fatigue are all factors that affect the beauty of the skin.

Try to engage in regular physical activity. It's good for the body in general and it deeply cleanses the pores. A good night's sleep and effective sun protection are some of the habits to adopt to limit skin aging and allow it to regenerate.

Know your skin type

To take care of your face, it's important to know your skin type.

Normal skin is balanced. It can be slightly oily on the forehead, nose, and chin (the T-zone) but without excess. It is velvety, soft, and smooth skin.

When the skin is oily, the entire face tends to shine. Pores are more dilated, and blackheads and comedones are common.

Combination skin has an oily T-zone but normal or sensitive cheeks.

Dry skin is often irritated, with a feeling of tightness. The skin is sensitive to temperature changes.

Choose cosmetics adapted to your skin type

Once you know your skin type, it's easier to choose the most suitable cosmetics. The vast majority of creams, serums, gels, and lotions are available for different skin types.

At Le Rouge Français, makeup lines are certified organic, vegan, and made in France. Le Rouge Français is the first makeup house with plant-based coloring. Not only do the cosmetics perfectly respect your skin, keeping it healthy, but they are also environmentally friendly.

Lipsticks are natural down to their colors.

Mascaras are offered in a caring formula perfectly suited for sensitive eyes.

Multi-zone complexion creams bring freshness and radiance to lips, cheekbones, and eyelids. The certified organic ingredients have approved dermatological benefits.

Remove makeup and cleanse facial skin

Cleansing your skin morning and evening is an essential step.

Why cleanse facial skin?

In the morning and evening, good facial cleansing is essential. Before applying makeup, it is necessary to eliminate all impurities secreted during the night. In the evening, you must rid the skin of all aggressions suffered during the day.

Facial cleansing helps eliminate excess sebum, dead skin cells, but also bacteria, parasites, viruses, germs... present on the skin and which prevent it from breathing properly.

We also eliminate environmental pollutants that inevitably settle on facial skin. We rid the skin of cosmetic residues. All these impurities can clog pores, dull the complexion, promote the appearance of redness, pimples, acne... The skin is cleansed with a non-aggressive product. It is not about making the protective lipid film disappear or unbalancing the essential microbiota.

What product to use for facial skin cleansing?

The product must be specifically designed to cleanse facial skin. The skin there is very thin and very sensitive.

Most soaps have a pH close to 11; however, that of the skin is close to 5.5. It is therefore important to choose the right product, which cleanses with a neutral pH. Water alone is not enough and most gels and soaps are too aggressive.

Avoid the eye contour where the skin is very fragile. Do not rub, but gently massage with a cotton pad or fingertips. The eye contour area lacks a protective hydrolipidic film. It is important to choose a specific treatment to cleanse the eye area and eyelids.

Use a specific towel to dry your face (neither the one for the rest of your body nor your hands). In the evening, you can do a double cleansing. The first step removes makeup, dust, etc.

The second allows you to massage the face with your fingers to stimulate blood circulation, starting from the chin towards the ears, then on the cheeks, between the eyebrows, and finally the forehead. By applying only micellar water to cleanse the skin, it is not perfectly clean. If it is not rinsed off, micellar water accentuates minor skin problems such as dehydration, sensitivity, irritation... With a double cleansing, the skin is perfectly clean and ready to optimally benefit from night care.

Moisturize facial skin

Facial skin (but also the skin on the rest of the body!) needs to be moisturized. This helps keep it waterproof by retaining the necessary sebum layer. When the skin lacks sebum, it dries out because it is no longer waterproof.

To maintain proper skin hydration, you must first drink enough water. The minimum recommended is 1.5 liters. By washing your face correctly, you promote hydration. The moisturizing cream must also be chosen carefully. It must contain water and fatty substances that help maintain the impermeability of the epidermis. It preserves the skin's hydrolipidic film. Dry oils nourish the skin, while cream will moisturize it more. It is therefore advisable to use these two complementary products.

It is important to choose one night moisturizer and another cream for the day. They do not have the same composition and effects. Day cream is more moisturizing and protective than night cream, which promotes skin regeneration more. Apply the cream from the center of the face outwards, without rubbing, but with gentle movements that do not wrinkle the skin. Take the opportunity to moisturize the neck as well.

Exfoliate regularly, but without excess

It is important to exfoliate the skin once or twice a week depending on your skin type and activity. Exfoliation helps stimulate the skin, restore its radiance, and improve the effectiveness of creams.

Mechanical scrubs are perfect for combination skin. Those with an enzymatic base with fruit acids and/or enzymes are recommended for dry and sensitive skin.

It is necessary to choose a gentle scrub and apply it delicately with your fingertips using small circular motions. Again, avoid the eye contour area. Do not exfoliate too frequently. Over-exfoliated skin will become irritated and dry, especially if it already tends to be dry. If the skin is oily, too frequent exfoliation will lead to increased sebum secretion and worsen the situation.

For more mature skin, it is essential to rebalance rather than "strip." Opt for gentle care, cleansers for normal skin like rose floral water. Exfoliation should be performed on clean skin and followed by skin hydration.

Adopt simple gestures to enhance your facial skin

A few simple, regular gestures can help you achieve younger, more radiant skin.

Massage your lips

When lips are less plump or drier, hydrate them, but you can also gently pinch them between your fingers for a few minutes. This helps reactivate blood circulation.

Prioritize antioxidants

Most Le Rouge Français cosmetics contain antioxidants such as coconut, jojoba, apricot, or castor oils. These antioxidants help the skin fight against aggressions, reduce wrinkles and pigment spots. They prevent skin aging while correcting imperfections. They are generally restorative thanks to shea butter, but also softening and protective via plant waxes.

Practice facial exercises

To strengthen facial tissues and muscles, simply smile exaggeratedly while applying your day and night cream. Gently pinch, without pulling, your eyebrows, forehead, temples, cheekbones, cheeks, and the oval of your face. Use all your fingers to restore firmness to your features.

Limit blue light exposure

Blue light from computer screens, LEDs, mobile phones, or tablets accelerates skin aging. Those who work long hours in front of a screen can use a specific treatment that blocks and corrects the harmful effects of blue light.
